Baseball Recap: Melbourne Takes a Loss

Melbourne and Lake Minneola squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Melbourne had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.

Melbourne got a good showing from Landon Barney, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Barney has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Melbourne saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Gonzalez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Melbourne has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-10 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Lake Minneola, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-8.

Melbourne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lake Minneola, they will head out to face off against Bloomingdale at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulls will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
