Basketball Game Preview: Santa Fe Demons vs. Sandia Matadors

Santa Fe hasn't had much luck against Sandia recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Santa Fe Demons will head out on the road to take on the Sandia Matadors at 7:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Santa Fe ended up a good deal behind La Cueva and lost 54-35. While losing is never fun, the Demons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Bears are ranked tenth).

Meanwhile, Sandia waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They claimed a resounding 82-24 victory over the Golden Eagles. The Matadors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 18 games by 22 points or more this season.

Sandia's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points over those games. As for Santa Fe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-13.

Santa Fe was taken down by Sandia 73-15 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sandia's Sydney Benally, who went 11-for-16 en route to 22 points along with seven assists and six boards.
