Basketball Recap: Winfield Has No Trouble Against Phillips

Winfield won the last time they faced Phillips and things went their way on Thursday too. The Winfield Pirates blew past the Phillips Bears 65-41. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while the Bears are ranked 403rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Winfield has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Phillips, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Winfield will square off against Florence at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Florence's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Phillips, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 59-50 defeat against Phil Campbell on the 24th.
