Softball Game Preview: Covington Trojans vs. Seeger Patriots

The Covington Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Seeger Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Covington has three straight wins, Seeger has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Covington's victory against Crawfordsville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Athenians 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since April 1st.

Covington got a massive performance out of Caydence Peaslee, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI Peaslee has posted over her last 11 games. Lilly Pigg also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Seeger started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Armstrong. They came up short against the Trojans on Saturday, falling 21-10.

Vivienne Middleton and Kaylyn Wheeler did some serious damage despite the final result: Middleton went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Wheeler went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Audra Pickett, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Seeger's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Covington, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.

Everything went Covington's way against Seeger in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Covington made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
