Jeannette has gone a perfect 7-0 against Ellis recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Jayhawks are taking a road trip to face off against Ellis at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jeannette has three straight wins, Ellis has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Jeannette came out on top against Leechburg on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 13-run third inning. The Jayhawks blew past the Blue Devils 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Jayhawks, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Peyton Pitzer was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Leah Defelice was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Jeannette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leechburg only posted an OBP of .308.
Meanwhile, Ellis lost 16-1 to Brentwood on Thursday.
Ellis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maryella Wanless, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Jeannette's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ellis, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Jeannette's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Jayhawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Ellis, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Jeannette continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Jeannette's way against Ellis when the teams last played back in April, as Jeannette made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jayhawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
