Softball Game Preview: Southmont Mounties vs. Lebanon Tigers

The Southmont Mounties will head out to face off against the Lebanon Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Southmont has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Monday, Southmont didn't have quite enough to beat North Putnam and fell 4-3.

Southmont saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Barry, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Lebanon came tearing into Monday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past the Bison 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 24th.

Miley Wilhoite spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Lebanon hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.

Southmont has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season. As for Lebanon, their record now sits at 17-7.

Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southmont hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Lebanon struggles in that department as they've averaged .410. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Southmont couldn't quite finish off Lebanon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Mounties avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
