Softball Recap: Westside Comes Up Short

Westside came into this matchup off a tough 15-run loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Obion County Rebels by a score of 7-5 on Saturday. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mckyna Craig put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Vada Watkins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Kimber Wynn was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Westside's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Obion County, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.

Westside didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-1 victory against Bartlett on the 22nd. As for Obion County, they will square off against Hickman County at 5:00 p.m. on the 31st. Obion County is facing Hickman County at the right time seeing as Hickman County is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
