Basketball Recap: Niwot Comes Up Short

Niwot was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 53-15 loss at the hands of the Legacy Lightning. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-11.

Defeat or not, Niwot got some senior leadership from Hadie Adams and Thalia Almaraz. Adams posted two points and five rebounds, while Almaraz scored five points and five steals. Almaraz has become a key player for Niwot: the team is 8-4 when she posts at least five steals, but 1-6 otherwise.

Olivia Mortensen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Legacy, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 14 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mortensen has scored at least a third of Legacy's points. Siena Kidd also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Niwot now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Legacy, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-7.

Niwot has already played their next game, a 56-47 victory against Silver Creek on the 7th. As for Legacy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 47-38 loss against Monarch on the 7th.
