The Herrin Tigers will square off against the Johnston City Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Herrin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Herrin was able to grind out a solid victory over Waltonville, taking the game 9-5. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by exactly four runs.

Sophia Schramm spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ryleigh Coffey was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. She also put up a run, which was her first of the season. Branson Hill was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Coffey wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Herrin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Tigers are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Johnston City fell victim to Carterville and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Lions. The Indians' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Johnston City's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Herrin, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
