Basketball Recap: Matt Rhoades-Martinez Key Part of Team Effort in Ravens Win

Denver South had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Fossil Ridge SaberCats on Friday as the Denver South Ravens made off with an 83-60 win. This was payback for the Ravens, who suffered a 62-60 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Denver South's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matt Rhoades-Martinez led the charge by shooting 56% from the field on his way to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That's the most steals Rhoades-Martinez has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Rhoades-Martinez, who went 7-for-15 en route to 18 points and seven assists.

Denver South was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fossil Ridge only seven assists.

Fossil Ridge lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Walker Shields, who shot 60% from the field to rack up 16 points and five boards. He is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Cayden Clagett was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Denver South has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Fossil Ridge and nudges their season record down to 15-9.

Denver South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 79-72 loss against Ralston Valley on the 4th. Fossil Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
