Soccer Game Preview: Pflugerville Connally vs. Akins

The Pflugerville Connally Cougars will challenge the Akins Eagles at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pflugerville Connally has three straight wins, Akins has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Pflugerville Connally's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They skirted past Pflugerville 1-0. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Cougars were the better team in the second half.

Meanwhile, Akins managed to keep up with Westlake until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Akins lost 5-0 to Westlake. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 420th, while the Chaparrals are ranked 107th).

Akins' defeat dropped their record down to 3-5-1. As for Pflugerville Connally, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4-1 record this season.

Pflugerville Connally beat Akins by a goal in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 2-1. Will Pflugerville Connally repeat their success, or does Akins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
