Softball Game Preview: Spruce Mountain Phoenix vs. Madison Bulldogs

Spruce Mountain and Madison are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Phoenix will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Spruce Mountain's offense. They came up short against Monmouth Academy on Wednesday, falling 9-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Phoenix were not able to get on the board.

Rylee Turner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, in Thursday's Canine Competition, Madison had to take the L. They lost 18-3 to Lisbon on Thursday.

This is the second loss in a row for Spruce Mountain and nudges their season record down to 7-6. As for Madison, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.

Spruce Mountain beat Madison 11-6 in their previous matchup on May 12th. Do the Phoenix have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
