Basketball Recap: Azusa Makes It Five in a Row at Home

If El Monte wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Azusa, they should've done a better job of containing Adam Sanchez. The Azusa Aztecs strolled past the El Monte Lions with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 70-51 thanks in part to Sanchez, who went 12 of 18 on his way to 30 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Azusa's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Garcia, who posted 11 points and five rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Azusa's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for El Monte, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Azusa will take on Southlands Christian in a holiday battle at at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Azusa's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. El Monte and South El Monte will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. El Monte is facing South El Monte at the right time seeing as South El Monte is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
