Softball Recap: Aquinas Beats East for Their Second Straight Victory

11 must be Aquinas's lucky number: they beat East with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Knights didn't even let the Dragons on the board, marking the Knights' second-straight 11-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-0 on Monday.

Jocelyn Powell was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Powell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Aquinas got a massive performance out of Annabelle Davies, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, Davies is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Jaida Mohr-Roberts was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Aquinas and bumps their season record up to 2-16. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for East, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aquinas will square off against Lake Center Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tiger have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for East, they will challenge Springfield at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
