Baseball Recap: South Hills Starts Season with Win at Home

South Hills gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They had just enough and edged the Walnut Mustangs out 1-0. For the Huskies, this counts as revenge for the 4-0 victory the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Elias Reyes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and only a hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ayden Vieth, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

South Hills will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Bonita at 3:00 p.m. on March 5th. The last three games South Hills has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Walnut also won't see the field for a while: their next contest is against Charter Oak at 3:15 p.m. on March 4th.
