Plainfield took care of business in their home opener on Monday (and then some). They put the hurt on the Highland Trojans with a sharp 10-3 victory.
Plainfield got a great performance from Carter Orner as he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Max Mantooth picked up the save, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on John Jaisle, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Gabe Hansen was another key contributor, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs.
On Highland's side, Ryan Murphy was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Plainfield will be playing in front of their home fans against Tri-West Hendricks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Highland, they will head out on the road to take on Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
