League recap: Palos Verdes extends winning streak with victory over Redondo Union

Palos Verdes extended the longest winning streak in Bay this week by beating Redondo Union, 21-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

West took down Palos Verdes Peninsula 56-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

The Panthers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ian Escutia threw for 116 and one touchdown and Zack Riley had 44 yards receiving. On the ground Jordan Gates chipped in 11 yards. Ryan Augello helped Palos Verdes Peninsula's passing attack out by catching five balls for 33 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Escutia and James Nelson Palos Verdes Peninsula has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Escutia leads the league in passing with 1022 yards, while Nelson has rushed for 558 yards this season. Palos Verdes' Dean Alessi leads the league in receiving yards with 360 on 17 catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Leuzinger takes on the Warriors. As it stands, the Olympians are in sixth, while West is in first.

There should be lots of points scored when Adam Boyd's team and Guy Gardner's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Panthers comes in having scored 197 this season, while the Sea Kings have scored 281. Palos Verdes Peninsula scored 6 points last week as it fell to Greg Holt's team.

The Warriors led the league in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on the Panthers.
