The Elkhart Lions will face off against the South Bend Adams Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Elkhart was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Mishawaka Marian on Monday. The Lions put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 12-3 victory. Considering the Lions have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Brennon Whickcar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Max Shreiner was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Rost, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Elkhart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, South Bend Adams entered their tilt with Elkhart Christian Academy on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past Elkhart Christian Academy 14-2.
DAVID ASCANIO looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for South Bend Adams: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 5-17 otherwise.
At the plate, AIDAN MICINSKI was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of South Bend Adams' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 1-17 when he doesn't). KANIEN SMITH was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Elkhart's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for South Bend Adams, their victory bumped their record up to 7-18.
