Basketball Recap: South Callaway Bulldogs vs. Tipton Cardinals
South Callaway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were outmatched by the Tipton Cardinals and fell 82-21. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 58-8.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tipton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Clara Williams, who went 9 of 12 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight steals and six boards. Williams' evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Carvajal, who went 7 for 12 en route to 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
South Callaway's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-10. As for Tipton, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 16-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, South Callaway and Eugene will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:15 p.m. on February 4th. South Callaway is facing Eugene at the right time seeing as Eugene is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Tipton, they will face off against Jefferson City at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tipton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 games -- so hopefully Jefferson City likes a good challenge.
