Softball Recap: Brighton Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Farmington, Brighton was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They never let the Highland Rams get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bengals, who have now won three matchups by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Alison Nikolaus was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Nikolaus was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Kate Gunn was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Peyten Bowers was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Brighton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory got Brighton back to even at 5-5. As for Highland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Coming up, Brighton will square off against Maple Mountain at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Brighton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Maple Mountain has averaged an impressive 12.6 runs per game this season. As for Highland, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Summit Academy at 3:30 p.m. on April 7.
