Basketball Game Preview: Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds vs. Dixie Heights Colonels

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds will take on the Dixie Heights Colonels at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

On Saturday, Newport Central Catholic came up short against Archbishop Moeller and fell 64-54. While losing is never fun, the Thoroughbreds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 123rd in Kentucky, while the Fighting Crusaders are ranked 19th in Ohio).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dixie Heights). They claimed a resounding 86-47 win over Ludlow. The Colonels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Dixie Heights has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Newport Central Catholic, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.

Newport Central Catholic and Dixie Heights were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2024, but Newport Central Catholic came up empty-handed after a 66-65 defeat. Can Newport Central Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
