Baseball Recap: Holmdel Hornets vs. Raritan Rockets
Holmdel extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 5-9. They fell 5-2 to the Raritan Rockets. The Hornets were not able to make up for their loss to the Rockets from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.
As for Raritan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.
For Raritan's part, William Meehan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on one hit and racked up nine Ks. Meehan is becoming a predictor of the Rockets' success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Bear Evernham was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Alfonse Tufarelli also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Holmdel will venture away from home to challenge Marlboro at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Raritan, they will head out to square off against Barnegat at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
