Basketball Game Preview: Southern Nash Firebirds vs. Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets

The Southern Nash Firebirds will take on the Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southern Nash is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Southern Nash didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Nash Central, but they still walked away with a 54-49 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Firebirds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southern Nash to victory, but perhaps none more so than James Vick, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Vick is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Brandon Hill, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Southern Nash smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Roanoke Rapids strolled past Northampton County with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 55-41.

Southern Nash now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Roanoke Rapids, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Southern Nash came up short against Roanoke Rapids in their previous meeting back in January, falling 47-41. Can Southern Nash avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
