Baseball Game Preview: East Troy Trojans vs. Clinton Cougars

East Troy has gone 9-1 against Clinton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Cougars at 10:00 a.m. Clinton took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on East Troy, who comes in off a win.

While Trojans fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. Everything went their way against Palmyra-Eagle on Thursday as they made off with a 13-1 win.

Kellen Pluess and Seth Lingford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Pluess tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Meanwhile, Lingford struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Pluess scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Lingford scored a run while going 1-for-3. Those two runs gave Pluess a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Phillips, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Sickler, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Clinton came up short against New Glarus on Thursday and fell 9-6. The loss put an end to the Cougars' undefeated start to the season.

Clinton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Wesling, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another was Grayson Guestchow, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

East Troy skirted past Clinton 5-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
