Softball Preview: Lakewood Lancers vs. Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits
The Lakewood Lancers are taking a road trip to square off against the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lakewood's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Cabrillo as they made off with an 18-0 victory.
Meanwhile, Long Beach Poly got the win against Cabrillo on Wednesday by a conclusive 22-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jackrabbits.
Ari Wilson made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Wilson was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Persja Lam Sam was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBI, four runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Emoni Lam Sam, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Long Beach Poly hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Long Beach Poly's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Lakewood, their record now sits at 7-8.
