Basketball Game Preview: Coronado Thunderbirds vs. Franklin Cougars

Coronado is 1-9 against Franklin since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Coronado Thunderbirds will square off against the Franklin Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Coronado easily dispatched Socorro on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Coronado fell just short of Eastlake by a score of 49-47 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Thunderbirds have suffered since January 16, 2024.

Meanwhile, Franklin fought the good fight in their overtime game against Pebble Hills on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 54-46 to the Spartans. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Coronado's loss dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Franklin, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.

Coronado came up short against Franklin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 54-43. Can Coronado avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
