Softball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Avenal's Winning Streak

Avenal dropped their record down to 15-5-1 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 13-3 to the Dos Palos Broncos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-1 on April 4th.

Avenal saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Khloe Nieto, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

As for Dos Palos, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

On Dos Palos' side, Breann Raney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Raney has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Dos Palos let Liliana DelaRosa and Athena Correa run wild. DelaRosa went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs, while Correa went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four RBI gave DelaRosa a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha VonAllman, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Avenal didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 21-2 defeat against Coalinga on the 2nd. As for Dos Palos, they have also already played their next game, a 17-1 victory against Mendota on the 2nd.
