Basketball Recap: Ness City Comes Up Short

Ness City lost against Wheatland-Grinnell back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Ness City Eagles were beaten by the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks 67-34. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Thunderhawks are ranked 109th).

Wheatland-Grinnell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Natalie Bixenman led the charge by going 11 for 15 on her way to 26 points in addition to eight assists and five boards. Bixenman has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Aliviah Ball was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Ness City has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4.

Ness City has already played their next contest (against LaCrosse), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wheatland-Grinnell is taking a road trip to challenge Logan/Palco at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wheatland-Grinnell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52 points per game this season.
