Softball Recap: Delta's Win Ends Nine-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Delta had lost nine games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 2-3 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the New Castle Trojans by a score of 10-6. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

The team relied heavily on Jordyn Hughes, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, New Castle fell to 3-1. The loss was their first of the season.

On New Castle's side, Sydney Dobbs was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Dobbs has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run.

Dobbs wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emily Wells, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another was Calleigh Clayborn, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Delta has already played their next game, a 12-8 loss against Northeastern on the 15th. As for New Castle, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Shelbyville on the 15th.
