After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Topeka, Emporia was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the West Pioneers a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Chloe Steele and MacKayleigh Arrington did most of the damage at the plate: Steele went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Arrington went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Steele a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yzabel Ultreras, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Emporia's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-14. As for West, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Emporia will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Life Prep at 1:30 p.m. The Spartans are facing the Fire at the right time seeing as the Fire are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. West does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
