Baseball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 5-20 to make it 14. They fell just short of the Salina South Cougars by a score of 7-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Salina South, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-14. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

For Salina South's part, the team relied heavily on Caden Stauffer, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Stauffer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kolton Herbel, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

As of now, neither Newton nor Salina South have any future games scheduled.
