Softball Recap: Leander Lions vs. Hays Hawks

Leander managed to slip by Hays the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Leander Lions came up short against the Hays Hawks on Tuesday, falling 8-2. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Leander got a good showing from Scarlett Geurin, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Geurin has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rachel Grundei made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Lee, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Leander hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hays struck out eight times.

This is the second loss in a row for Leander and nudges their season record down to 10-6. As for Hays, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.

Coming up, Leander will head out to challenge Cedar Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Leander is facing Cedar Park at the right time seeing as Cedar Park is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Hays, they will welcome Rouse at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
