Football Recap: Corning Cardinals vs. Gridley Bulldogs

The matchup between Corning and Gridley on Friday hardly resembled the 14-7 effort from their previous meeting. The Corning Cardinals took a blow against the Gridley Bulldogs, falling 44-16. The Cardinals lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in October of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 14-7 score last time.

Corning's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6. As for Gridley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Corning will head out to square off against Yreka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Yreka is coming into the contest with three straight victories at home, so Corning will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Gridley, they will head out on the road to challenge University Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Gridley's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last four matches.
