Game recap: Valdosta High School Football Team takes down Coffee

DOUGLAS, Ga. - Valdosta (Ga.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 44-8 win over Coffee (Douglas, Ga.).

The Wildcats scored 14 points in the first quarter. Valdosta scored on a Josh Norwood touchdown pass to Taijuan Smith and a touchdown run by Nelson Herring.

VHS was up 34-0 at the half after taking the lead on a Norwood touchdown pass to Smith in the first quarter.

The Wildcats expanded their lead to 36 points entering the fourth quarter. Valdosta scored two times in the third, including once on a kick return touchdown by Yardley Payne.



Malcolm Joseph stood out for VHS in the win. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns.

Keegan McGovern played well for the Trojans. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.

Coffee's lone touchdown came on a 6-yard pass from McGovern to Raquan Ross in the third quarter.

The Wildcats entered the contest giving up 20.4 points per game this year. Valdosta held firm on the defensive front, and kept CHS well below the 26.3 points it had been averaging per game.

VHS got revenge for last year's 22-17 loss to the Douglas school with the victory.

With the win the Wildcats extended their winning streak to four games.
