Baseball Recap: Springfield's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Conestoga, Springfield was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Upper Darby Royals 3-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Denny Monastra tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Springfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean O'Reilly, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That RBI was O'Reilly's first of the season.

Springfield's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Upper Darby, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springfield will take on Haverford at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Upper Darby, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Penncrest at 3:45 p.m. on the 28th.
