Football Recap: Gaither Cowboys vs. Wharton Wildcats
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gaither). They breezed by the Wharton Wildcats on the road to the tune of 54-6 on Saturday. Considering the Cowboys have won three matchups by more than 19 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Gaither to victory were Ej Archield Jr and Elija Mason. Archield Jr threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes, while Mason gained 148 total yards and two touchdowns. What's more, Mason also racked up 88 rushing yards, the mosthe's had since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Bryan Hamilton, who picked up 112 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Gaither wouldn't let Wharton keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as John Benson, Serious Stinyard, and Elijah Rich picked up one apiece.
Gaither pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Wharton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gaither will venture away from home to square off against Cypress Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gaither is facing Cypress Creek at the right time seeing as Cypress Creek is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Wharton, they will head out to take on Armwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Armwood will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Wharton surely won't give up without a fight.
