Basketball Game Preview: Marlboro County Bulldogs vs. South Florence Bruins

The Marlboro County Bulldogs just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the South Florence Bruins at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Marlboro County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season.

Marlboro County is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Crestwood just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 71-46 to the Knights. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Knights are ranked tenth).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Justin Purvis, who posted eight points. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Cameron Smith was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, South Florence's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 63-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Atlantic Collegiate Academy.

Marlboro County's record is now 8-2. As for South Florence, their record now sits at 5-5.

Marlboro County came up short against South Florence in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 50-46. Can Marlboro County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
