Baseball Recap: Pierz Comes Up Short

Pierz had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-5 to make it four. They fell just short of the Upsala/Swanville Patriots by a score of 2-1. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

As for Upsala/Swanville, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

For Upsala/Swanville's part, Isaac Gapinski spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bradon Lange, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

Looking ahead, Pierz will square off against Royalton at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Upsala/Swanville, they will take on Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunder's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
