Basketball Game Preview: Calais Blue Devils vs. Machias Bulldogs

Calais hasn't had much luck against Machias recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Calais Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Machias Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Calais will head into Monday's match hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 24) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Lee Academy 53-50.

Meanwhile, Machias had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 73-34 victory over the Knights. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Knights are ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Machias' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Calais, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Calais might still be hurting after the 55-29 loss they got from Machias in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Calais avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
