Baseball Game Preview: Buena Chiefs vs. The Pilgrim Academy Pioneers

The Buena Chiefs will face off against The Pilgrim Academy Pioneers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Buena has three straight wins, The Pilgrim Academy has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Buena's victory against Gateway Regional wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Chiefs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Gators a 2-0 shutout on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chiefs have posted since March 26th.

Not much got past Jalexis Agosto-Sanchez, who gave up just two hits to keep Gateway Regional off the board. Agosto-Sanchez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaevon Alexander, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan O'Connell, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Salem County Vo-Tech hit The Pilgrim Academy with a five-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pioneers might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-1 to Salem County Vo-Tech, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

The Pilgrim Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Buena, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.
