Softball Recap: Hazard Starts Season with Victory Against Letcher County Central

Hazard had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Letcher County Central Cougars / Lady Cougars on Monday. This was payback for the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs, who suffered a 5-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Peyton Fields spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mallory Combs, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kadence Stollings, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Hazard will square off against North Laurel at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Letcher County Central, they will take on Eastside at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
