Softball Game Preview: Sweet Springs/Malta Bend vs. Concordia Fighting Orioles

Sweet Springs/Malta Bend will take on the Concordia Fighting Orioles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

After dropping their season opener at home, Concordia is headed out to face a Sweet Springs/Malta Bend team ready to give their home crowd a win. Sweet Springs/Malta Bend lost 13-4 to Mt. Vernon back in March.

Meanwhile, Concordia came tearing into Monday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 12-0 shutout. 12 seems to be a good number for the Fighting Orioles as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Emily Wilkens was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Addison Roepe was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Concordia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Sweet Springs/Malta Bend suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Concordia when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can Sweet Springs/Malta Bend avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
