Baseball Recap: Keyser Golden Tornado vs. Hampshire Trojans

Keyser extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hampshire Trojans. The Golden Tornado were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Landon Tysinger put in work no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Tysinger wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Harr, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Hampshire, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

On Hampshire's side, Ethan VanMeter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Channing Wilt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brent Evans, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Keyser will square off against Mountain Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hampshire, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Frankfort at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th.
