Softball Recap: Mayfield Drops Season-High Score on Westridge

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mayfield). They blew past the Westridge Tigers 23-5 on Wednesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-6 last Tuesday.

Harlinn Moriarty was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaz Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bridgette Carroll, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Mayfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory got Mayfield back to even at 10-10-2. As for Westridge, their defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-13-1.

As of now, neither Mayfield nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
