Baseball Game Preview: Westminster Academy Lions vs. Coral Springs Charter Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Westminster Academy Lions face off against Coral Springs Charter Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Westminster Academy is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

Westminster Academy managed to slip by St. John Paul II Academy the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Westminster Academy lost 9-2 to St. John Paul II Academy on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Lions have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Westminster Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Diego Solorzano was another, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Coral Springs Charter narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past American Heritage 6-4.

Coral Springs Charter also got a great performance from Marcelo Young as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Young also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Coral Springs Charter is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Yadisson Karbalaieasghar was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Jackson Taylor also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Coral Springs Charter has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. Westminster Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Westminster Academy might still be hurting after the 17-8 loss they got from Coral Springs Charter in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can Westminster Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
