Baseball Game Preview: Newark Academy Minutemen vs. Cedar Grove Panthers

Newark Academy is 2-8 against Cedar Grove since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Minutemen will host the Panthers at 4:00 p.m.

Newark Academy came up short against Gill St. Bernard's on Saturday, falling 12-3. The Minutemen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Caleb Epstein was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Nathan Baris was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Cedar Grove waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Redwings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since April 5th.

Cedar Grove's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Newark Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Newark Academy came up short against Cedar Grove in their previous matchup back in April, falling 10-5. Can the Minutemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
