Volleyball Recap: Somersworth Starts Season with Win at Home

Somersworth took care of business in their home opener on Wednesday. They came out on top against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints by a score of 3-1. The Toppers are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 23 straight dating back to last season.

The victory didn't come easy: St. Thomas Aquinas scored at least 19 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21.

Emily Runions paced Somersworth's offense, picking up 13 kills. Runions got some help from Kylie Pettengill and her 30 assists. Finally, Paige Demers kept Somersworth's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somersworth is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will take on Prospect Mountain at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they will venture away from home to face off against Manchester West at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
