Softball Game Preview: Oxford Wildcats vs. West Elk Patriots

Oxford is on a five-game streak of home losses, and West Elk a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Oxford Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the West Elk Patriots at 3:00 p.m. The last three games Oxford has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Oxford will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Little River, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Wildcats skirted past the Redskins 21-19. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 31st.

The team relied heavily on Taleah Morris, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Fayth Catlin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, West Elk fell victim to South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven] and their airtight pitching crew on April 14th. They lost 10-0 to the Outlaws.

West Elk's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Oxford, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.

Oxford took their victory against West Elk when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 20-10 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
