Softball Recap: Hialeah Gardens Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hialeah Gardens had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Westland Hialeah Wildcats a 19-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Gladiators also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.

Krystal Martinez and Thalia Hare did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Hare went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Martinez has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Delania Aleman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hialeah Gardens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

Hialeah Gardens pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Westland Hialeah, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hialeah Gardens will venture away from home to challenge Mater Lakes Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Westland Hialeah, they will head out to face off against Hialeah Educational Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
