Basketball Recap: Summers County Takes a Loss

Summers County lost against James Monroe back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Summers County Bobcats were dealt a 66-31 defeat at the hands of the James Monroe Mavericks. The match marked the Bobcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

James Monroe was led to victory by Kadyn Hines and Layton Dowdy. Hines went 9 for 15 on his way to 24 points in addition to five steals and three blocks, while Dowdy went 6 of 10 en route to 16 points and six rebounds. Those 16 points gave Dowdy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lane Taylor, who posted seven points.

Summers County dropped their record down to 1-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for James Monroe, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summers County will take on Midland Trail at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for James Monroe, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Narrows at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. James Monroe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.7 points per game this season.
